1. Updater

1.1. Summary

This functionality allows you to install remotely NEXThink Collector in your environnement with the Finder Management console (finder menu - NEXThink Collector -).

1.2. Applies To

  • NEXThink Engine V4 and higher

1.3. Usage

Pre-requisite: The NEXThink Updater component must be installed on computer to use this functionnality.

  1. Connect to the webconsole using your credentials.
  2. Go to Engine/Updater section and enable it.
  3. In the collector selection, select - Use previously submitted zip file collector-4.0.0xx.zip - or Upload the latest Collector zip file.
  4. Make sure that the parameter "Engine DNS name" (in Engine/parameters) is set.
  5. Go to Finder and access to the "NEXThink Collector" and the tab "Manage":

    • NEXThinkCollector_Manage

1.4. Requirements

  • Engine/CentOS side:
    • Working network.

  • Remote computer side:
    • Working network

    • Firewall rules open
      • - on port TCP/99 (to download MSI),
        - on port TCP/8888 (default port, to connect between Updater/Engine)
        - and port UDP/999 (default port, to send data with the Collector).

To change this settings, you must have administrator privileges.

  • Enable updater client log:

    (this file will change the regkey located in the following registry entry: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\NEXThink Updater\params\logmode)

    • We need to restart the computer to have the full context.
    • Please send us the log located here: C:\WINDOWS\nxtupdater.log

    Please note that you must disable the log with this reg file: Disable_NEXThink_Updater_logs.reg


    Enable Engine log:

    • Connect to the Engine
    • Enable the log using the following command:

      nxinfo log -d Updater 
    • The log is located on this following directory: \var\log\kengine

    Please note that you must disable the log with this command:

    nxinfo log -i Updater 


    Troubleshoot Winhttp connection:

    • Download this following tool: winhttptracecfg.zip (unzip with "nexthink" password)

    • Connect to the target computer.
    • Run this tool using this command parameter:

      winhttptracecfg.exe -e 1 -l c:\Temp\logs\winhttp 
    • restart your computer
    • Wait 5 min to get some more log.
    • Send us the log located here: c:\Temp\logs

    Please note that you must disable the log with this command:

    winhttptracecfg.exe -e 0
