Tracking the execution of remote actions

Overview

To help you track the execution of remote actions on the devices of the employees, the Portal creates a set of ready-made Act dashboards:

Remote actions overview
Get the overall number of executions and for the available remote actions. See the execution statistics grouped by platform, purpose and triggering method.
Remote actions details
For each available remote action, explore the execution details such as the devices on which the remote action run, their status, and the most common error messages returned.

Both overview and details dashboards only display the executions that occurred during the period selected in the time navigation tool of the Portal, located to the right-hand side of the top blue ribbon.

To track the executions of remote actions on the devices of the employees, start by opening the remote actions overview dashboard:

  1. Log in to the Portal as a user with access to Act dashboards enabled.
  2. Click the REMOTE ACTIONS tab at the top of the window. The overview dashboard with the list of available remote actions shows up.
  3. Optional: On the right-hand side of the overview dashboard, click a row in the list of available remote actions to open the details dashboard of the selected remote action.

On the left-hand side of the overview dashboard, find the filtering criteria. On the right-hand side, find the list of available remote actions with the number of devices on which each remote action has been run, as well as the number of successful and failed executions.

Filtering executions

To focus your attention on a particular set of executions, filter the results of the overview dashboard by clicking on a subdivision criterion. All executions and remote actions that do not comply with the filtering criterion are removed from the dashboard.

Choose among the following filtering criteria:

Platform Purpose Trigger
  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Data collection
  • Remediation
  • Automatic
  • API
  • Manual

When selecting more than one filtering criterion, criteria of different groups are combined with a logical AND, whereas criteria within the same group are combined with a logical OR.

All selected filters are displayed at the top left of the overview dashboard. Optionally click the cross of an applied filter to remove it from the chain. Alternatively, click Reset filters to remove all active filters.

Filters are propagated to the details dashboard if you select a remote action from the list in the overview dashboard after filtering.

Once you open the details of a remote action from the overview dashboard, find the status of the executions for that remote action along with a line chart that shows the trend for the execution status on the left-hand side of the dashboard.

In the middle of the dashboard, see the classification of remote actions that breaks down the results and that you can use as filtering criteria.

In the right-hand side of the dashboard, find the list of devices on which the remote action ran, along with the number of times that it was actually run on each device. Click the CSV link at the bottom left of the list to download the list of devices as a CSV file.

At the bottom of the dashboard, find the list of most common errors returned by the selected remote action when its execution failed.

Filtering execution details

Filter the execution details of a remote action by clicking on the filtering criteria, in much the same way as you did in the overview dashboard. Additionally, filter by the status of the executions, whether failed or successful.

The details dashboard adapts number of executions, the list of devices and the top error messages according to the selected filtering criteria.
